With the constant bombardment by the media of what’s hot and new in the City of Gold, many are on the search for places they can visit without having to jostle with a crowd. Something they can get to with ease, and enjoy in relative peace and quiet.
And with the cooler months now prevailing in the UAE, we say hello to outdoor spots in Dubai that haven’t been given as much exposure as their more popular and illustrious counterparts. With a potent combination of greenery, fabulous and inspiring city views, fresh air, and perhaps even beach or pool access thrown in, these places are enough to inspire and attract the most discriminating of city trekkers.
Below, a destination management company have listed six fun outdoor attractions in Dubai that you need to explore this winter.
1. Umm Suqueim Park
Umm Suqueim Park is located close to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel which has a café, kids play areas and the beach close by.
Like most parks in the city, the delightful green spaces offer park-goers the chance to enjoy a little solace or peace and quiet from the city. It’s also a great exercise space that enables fitness enthusiasts to work out at their own comfort and pace.
2. Al Ittihad Park
The planning details of this highly anticipated park are already in the news. The Al Ittihad Park is located between Golden Mile Building Nos. 2 and 3 on the Palm Jumeirah. It includes a 3.2-kilometer running track which runs alongside the monorail, around the Trump Tower station, as well as exercise equipment such as pull-up bars along the side-lines.
The park also includes two main play areas for children to keep them entertained while the adults engage in some fitness playtime as well.
This beautiful tourist attraction contains many trees and plants endemic to the UAE deserts, mountains, wadis and coastal areas, making it also a botanist’s dream. The park is open 24 hours a day all year.
3. Al Barsha Pond Park
Located near the Mall of the Emirates area and serving the surrounding Al Barsha section of Dubai, the Al Barsha Pond Park has a soft 1.4-kilometer-long running track surrounding a pond with markings at every 100-meter point, making it a great place for jogging and sprinting activities.
One is able to enter the park near the Emirates NBD Bank on 316 Street. And some good news for park-goers here: there is plenty of parking space in the park entrance façade. The place is open to the public until 10 p.m. every day.
4. Al Mamzar Beach Park
Though a bit isolated from the rest of the city being located close to Dubai’s neighboring emirate, Sharjah, this beach park has an enclosed section as well as open beach access dotted with cafes and snack shops.
Here, you can picnic, jet ski, swim and fish (with a license), or simply laze in the sun enjoying the greenery and peaceful views by the sea. If you ever feel like running, the publicly accessible section of the beach park features more than three-kilometer-long jogging track popular among residents.
5. Al Nahda Pond Park
This beautifully landscaped pond park features a central fountain and a picturesque pond that has a soothing effect on all of those fortunate enough to see it in its full glory. This family-friendly park features a jogging track, a playground and outdoor exercise equipment which are all accessible for free.
6. Nad Al Sheba Park
Finally, tucked away in a quiet community located close to the Dubai-Al Ain Road, the Nad Al Sheba Park is a haven for cycling enthusiasts, although it also features a jogging track for runners and power walkers. For those who are simply dropping by to explore a place “far from the madding crowd,” this park also features beautiful vegetation and a lot of interesting avian activity.
There’s always plenty more of Dubai’s fun attractions to explore, so be sure to allocate sufficient time to visit the souks, museums, unique restaurant concepts, and historical sites the city has to offer, beyond the mega-sized malls and skyscrapers.
